Services – ADHD
(1) Assessments
The evaluation process is one of discovery, understanding and education about ADHD.
ADHD assessments require a comprehensive evaluation process that includes reviewing family history and symptom patterns across one's lifespan. On average, two to three clinical hours and various assessment instruments will be used to determine a diagnosis and discuss a plan of action that is most effective for the individual client. The assessment includes ADHD checklists and a computerized performance test for auditory and visual attention. Other diagnostic tools help identify and address any co-existing conditions such as anxiety, mood, personality or dissociative disorders, which can mimic ADHD.
(2) Mentoring / Coaching / Counseling
TLEC uses mentoring, coaching and counseling to assist clients in managing and creating strategies for challenges that result from a diagnosis of ADHD. An educational, directive, action-oriented approach is used to help clients deepen their understanding of ADHD and to help meet the challenges of the diagnosis.
ADHD being a genetic, developmental difference will become more complicated and problematic if not addressed. The weaving of mentoring, coaching and counseling seamlessly addresses the needs of clients without the need for separate services in each of these areas. The risk of separating these perspectives into 3 different services sets up a high risk for disconnection because of the struggles with consistency, managing details and follow-through that result from a diagnosis of ADHD.
(3) Adult ADHD Lessons in Living Education Group
This group threads three vitally important areas for learning to manage, support and thrive within a diagnosis of ADHD.
1) Education in 10 different areas of how ADHD affects one’s life
2) Development of personalized strategies to begin developing key insights and tools for the unique nature of how ADHD affects each client
3) Connection with other adults diagnosed with ADHD to normalize, validate and create comrade amongst members
Members receive a comprehensive workbook of educational materials covering ADHD. The material is presented in a small group setting over a thirteen-week period. Topics include relationship challenges, relaxation/focus techniques, workplace issues, time-management, organization, social skills and much more.
Members set weekly goals and learn practical tools and strategies by reviewing these goals each week in group. Although the group addresses the common challenges associated with ADHD, the group's philosophy rests upon teaching individuals to understand and thrive within their unique differences of how ADHD shows up in their lives.
The group is a great setting for tapping into the creative and energetic components of ADHD. Sharing common bonds, insights, and ideas is effective in developing resilience and strength so clients can learn the art of thriving beyond their ADHD diagnosis.
(4) College Accommodations
We offer ADHD evaluations that will assist students in accessing disability accommodations at their college. Our evaluations consist of taking a thorough family and life history directly with the client and administering various assessment instruments. If additional psychological testing is required, we coordinate outside cognitive and IQ testing that will be incorporated into our comprehensive report.
