Introduction to TLEC Services
Let me tell you about the intake process at The Life Empowerment Center (TLEC.) Initially many clients come in with a diagnosis that has been identified by some behavioral, emotional or learning challenge that has thrown their life out of balance. In medical terminology, this is known as a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) diagnosis, such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, among others.
Although an initial diagnosis can be enlightening, it is often overwhelming because this new information can create a tidal wave of validation and understanding of why these issues have been occurring. Diagnosis at this point is very helpful and informative, and generally leads toward some level of intervention.
A diagnosis further provides ways to discover research about a condition, information about its history, and medical intervention to adjust a person’s neurochemistry that can lead to greater functioning. Diagnostic terms can also be limiting in that they are generated from a pathological perspective, or what is diseased or disordered, about a condition.
TLEC’s services are centered to move beyond diagnostics and into neurological and developmental perspectives that assist clients in understanding how they got to where they are in their lives. Further, services move toward personalizing strategies to create greater functionality and to strengthen a person’s character across all spectrums of living.
