The Emotional Distress Syndrome of ADHD

The Emotional Distress Syndrome (EDS), identified and coined by James Ochoa, is the cumulative effect of the neurological processing differences and behavioral challenges associated with ADHD. The chronic, lifelong nature of ADHD–related stress can increase to such a level that it becomes a syndrome akin to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

If you'd like to learn more about EDS and techniques to lessen its effects on your life, be sure to check out James' book Focused Forward and his podcast The Complex

As you come to terms with your ADHD, post this list somewhere you'll see it to remind yourself of why you're on this journey of understanding

I had seen several therapists, and found some support and comfort, but nothing that seemed to help me find my way back to the person I once was. However, in just 2 sessions with James, I felt better and stronger than I had in years. James explained how my ADHD was contributing to my trauma, creating an obstacle to my recovery. I feel like I've gotten my fight back.”
